I’d been looking for a place to buy No Sweat Apparel sneakers—I heard they ran large, so I wanted to try them on—and look what I found! The Majestical Roof is hidden away in a courtyard accessible through a sort of mid-block tunnel off of Fair Oaks north of Union (which is north of Colorado). It carries artisan-made and fair wage products including purses, jewelry, clothes and No Sweat Apparel shoes.

This used to be Micah’s coffee house, about a decade ago. Nice space, glad there’s something cool there.
How cool – I love the mystery of finding a place hidden through a tunnel…
sounds like a good place, but i have to quibble with the name. MajestiCAL?? Howabout just Majestic??
I am so happy to find this Pasadena blog. (Ctrl + D!)
It’s so great to see the continuing interest in Majestical Roof! Thank you for featuring it. I encourage anyone in the area to drop by. It’s full of wonderful things, and the location is truly a hidden, remarkable spot in Old Pas that you may have not yet seen. (I am one of MR’s artist/vendors.)
Erin, I had the same thought as you upon first hearing the name, but I then discovered that it is a phrase taken from Hamlet:
this brave o’erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire
- Julie
The Majestical Roof was named after a painting I produced. The Majestical Roof represents the universe as our roof.
Hamlet had his version of it too.
The Majestical Roof is open 7 days a week from Monday through Sunday 11:00A-6:00P.
It’s an amazing little boutique.
I do have a biased opinion, being related to Night-Blooming Shrimp and having my own work in the shop, but this place is something that Old Pasadena badly needed. Despite the historic character of Old Town (it is a National Register of Historic Places District) it is disappointing to walk down Colorado Boulevard and see so few locally-owned venues of any kind. To have a locally-owned and operated shop that goes even one step further by promoting local and independent artisans is the first step in the new direction of returning Old Pasadena to a Pasadena flavor.
Best of luck to Yvonne and Christina, co-owners of Majestical Roof, 0n continued success in their new business.

This courtyard has seen so many businesses–hair salon, coffee house, spa (?), courtyard restaurant…and so on. I often forget it’s still there. However, this looks like a really neat place to browse and hang out in the courtyard (again!)
Thanks for the blog and keeping the rest of us informed on our rapidly-changing, overly-gentrified city!
